A step-by-step guide for Grade 3/4 and Grade 5/6 students. Prepare with your yipiQ spelling flashcards and physical homework pack, then use what you studied in the ikandoiQ SST during class. This video has no sound.

Step by step

The steps

  1. Your weekly spelling lists are in yipiQ as flashcards. Sign in, open Classes and choose your spelling class.
  2. Choose this week’s list. Match its number to the spelling words at the back of your physical homework pack booklet.
  3. Open Cards and flip each card to read its meaning. Copy the full definition from yipiQ next to the matching word in your booklet. Do this for every word in the list.
  4. Highlight only the key words in each definition, not the whole definition. For example, in “Unwilling or hesitant to do something”, highlight Unwilling and hesitant. These help you remember reluctant.
  5. Study the spelling and meaning of every flashcard. Cover the word and see whether you can recall and spell it from its definition.
  6. Grade 3/4 only: watch the YouTube video linked to your spelling list. Grade 5/6 students continue to Learn without this video step.
  7. After studying the flashcards, open Learn mode. The button in yipiQ is labelled Lesson. Answer from memory, read the feedback and practise words you miss.
  8. Then open Test. Read each definition, type the matching spelling word, review your answers and submit. Aim for 100% every week. Review missed words and retest until you get them right.
  9. During class, sign in to ikandoiQ and open your course. Choose Modules, then the SST quiz your teacher gives you. Start only when your teacher tells you to, and read the instructions first.
  10. The definitions in the ikandoiQ SST come from yipiQ. Use the key words you studied to recall the matching spelling word, then spell it carefully.
