Assessment

Progress you can see: our assessment system.

Nothing in our program is assessed by vibe. Every student sits a measured cycle of weekly timed tests, work set above their school level, timed writing under genuine exam conditions and cumulative end-of-term exams — with results tracked on our online learning platform and shared with parents.

The weekly cycle

Every week, every student sits short timed tests on that week's vocabulary. Speed matters by design: the tests build the accuracy-under-pressure that OC, Selective and NAPLAN papers reward. Results are tracked across the term, and further test formats are introduced as students progress.

Weekly writing and sentences — marked one student at a time

Alongside the weekly tests, every student submits a writing task and a sentences task applying that week's vocabulary — and each submission is individually marked, not just graded. Every piece comes back with a detailed written report: what the student did well, and exactly what to improve next. Writing is assessed against the criteria of the text type being taught that week. Over a term, that is a personalised piece of feedback every week — a record parents can read, and a standard most tutoring simply doesn't attempt.

Homework and tests set above school level

Our homework and assessments are deliberately pitched beyond a student's current school year — the work set here is harder than the work set at school. That is the point: students used to a higher level of difficulty tend to find the real papers manageable rather than confronting.

Writing assessments under real exam conditions

Each term closes with a timed writing assessment run the way the real exams run — under time pressure, without digital assistance, and with no second attempts. Marked results and feedback are returned to students and parents.

Cumulative end-of-term exams

At the end of each term, students sit end-of-term exams covering multiple units in English, alongside Thinking Skills papers. The exams are cumulative by design — they draw on everything studied across the term rather than the most recent weeks — because that rewards genuine retention over cramming.

A practice bank built over years

Behind the program sits a large bank of online quizzes and activities, built up over years on our own learning platform: comprehension, Thinking Skills, reasoning, analogy and vocabulary work, and topic-by-topic mathematics practice — all graded by difficulty, so every student can start where they are and climb.

Mock trials — the dress rehearsal

From March to May, enrolled students sit our in-person OC and Selective Mock Trials at our Centre, NSW: Year 4 students sit OC mock trials and Year 6 students sit Selective trial tests, in multiple sessions covering Reading, Mathematical Reasoning, Thinking Skills and Writing — real test format, real conditions, including official NSW sample tests. Students walk into their placement test having already done the whole thing, more than once.

How parents stay informed

Parents receive constructive feedback on their child's progress on a regular basis — including weekly progress report emails during term, an end-of-term report and an end-of-year report, each showing strengths and areas to improve. Marked results and feedback come through our online learning platform, with parent information sessions each term and guidance on using it to monitor homework, marks and feedback at home.

Beyond the tests: revision is reinforced through interactive study activities and fast-paced accuracy games — designed to train the slow-down-and-read-every-detail discipline that timed exams punish students for lacking.
